Gentleman Geoff Brown

Geoff Brown was born in Tamworth, New South Wales, Australia in 1929 and lived in the city all of his life.

The first country music venue in Tamworth was at McGuire's Hotel ("Joe McGuire's Pub") which has become one of the country music icons to be visited by C/W fans.   It was Geoff Brown who brought the first country music group to McGuire's.

Geoff's association with radio and TV began in 1946 with live broadcasts of (radio) "2TM's Women's Radio Get -togethers."   Geoff has appeared on [TV] "Reg Lindsay's National Country Music Hour" (1969) and [radio] "The Big T Jubilee" (1972.)

Between 1967 and 1970, his recordings were released by RCA, followed by a period of record releases on Hadley Records (1971-1974.)

"The Geoff Brown Show Band," Tamworth's first country package show, took country music all over New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria throughout the 1970s, including a series of shows, in 1977, which played to audiences in the heart of the City of Sydney at the Haymarket and Martin Place for Radio 2TM.

Geoff became a foundation member of the Tamworth Branch of the Modern Country Music Association in 1966; was elected Vice-President in 1967 and guided the club's re-formation into the Capital Country Music Association in September of 1971.   With the CCMA, he has remained an executive committee member to the present day, serving as President from the mid 1980s to 1995.  In appreciation of loyal service and dedication to the cause of country music in Tamworth, CCMA Life Membership was bestowed upon Geoff in 1978.

He was inducted into the "Hands of Fame" in 1979.

Geoff was a founding trustee (1994) of the Australian Country Music Trust, which operated the "Country Music Heritage Hall" Museum and Archive in Tamworth.
