THE COUNTRY MUSIC STORE HAS CLOSED UP SHOP 31 MARCH 2012

One of Australian Country Music’s leading industry figures RON ADSETT has announced his retirement, and the closure of his landmark Brisbane outlet THE COUNTRY MUSIC STORE.

Ron with his wife Rosie and son Reyn at various times, has operated the Country Music Store for some 30 years (firstly in Brisbane city and lately in suburban Coopers Plains). For many years he was the only specialist Country Music retailer, supplying records and then CDs to customers all over Australia and in more than 20 countries around the world.

In the days before the internet he also did the mail order business for several artists’ fan clubs, and continued to service on-line customers of artists’ web sites as the internet spread. Ron’s personal relationship with his customers led to him building some lasting relationships – and on a number of occasions through the years was surprised to find a mail order customer in his shop (with many overseas people including Brisbane on their itinerary just to meet Ron). Ron often went to considerable lengths to acquire hard to find titles and built up supply sources amongst collectors across the world.

Ron Adsett began his music career as a record rep for major record companies EMI and Tempo before moving into radio. After a stint at Sydney’s 2UE he moved to Brisbane to become 4KQ’s music director as the station rode high with a Country format. When 4KQ dropped Country under new owners, Ron opened the Country Music Store.

He was a founding board member of the Country Music Association of Australia and served on the Board for 16 years. The Country Music Store was named the Country Music retailer of the Year 5 times by the CMAA.

The Country Music Store closed it's door on Saturday 31 March – with special guests on the day including Troy Cassar-Daley and his manager Roxanne Brown and wife Laurel Edwards, Michael Fix, and journalist Sue Jarvis, magazine editors and publishers Denise Torenbeek and Gayle Madill, our family, friends and long suffering staff Rosie Underwood (the other Rosie) and Nick Erby, World famous Country Music Broadcaster and host of CMROnline.

These days its down to selling off the few remaining titles and occasional specials and our own Bellbird Music titles.
